Lee Soo Geun, Taek Jae Hoon, Tony Ahn Charged With 1 Year In Prison

Celebrities Lee Soo Geun, Taek Jae Hoon (née Bae Sung Woo), and Tony Ahn, who are charged with playing illegal sports gambling on their phones with tens of millions of money, were charged with less than a year in prison and two years of probation.

Judge Shin Myung Hee of the Seoul Central Prosecutor's Office in the morning of December 6, 2013, in the first public trial charged Tony Ahn with ten months in prison and two years of probation, Lee Soo Geun with eight months in prison and two years of probation, and Taek Jae Hoon with six months in prison and two years of probation.

Regarding the probation charges of the three men, the judge said she "took into consideration the fact that all three acknowledged their crime and reflected upon it."

Lee Soo Geun, Taek Jae Hoon and Tony Ahn, who appeared in the first public trial with their lawyers, repeatedly acknowledged their crime and begged for mercy.

Tony Ahn said yesterday, "I have been ashamed of myself for the past few months, and sorry for the fans who cared for me. I will try to volunteer and help out others from now on."

Previously, the prosecutor's office indicted Lee Soo Geun, Taek Jae Hoon and Tony Ahn with illegal online gambling with tens of millions of dollars without detention. According to the prosecutor's office, the three were involved in an illegal sports gambling of batting on the winner of the primary soccer league teams in United Kingdom, using the illegal online gambling site and cell phone text messages. As a result of researching their gambling activities, Tony Ahn from March of 2005 to May of 2012 have spent 40 million dollars, and Lee Soo Geun from December of 2008 to June of 2011 have gambled using 37 million dollars. Taek Jae Hoon from February of 2008 to April of 2011 gambled regularly with 29 million dollars. Andy of the male group Shinhwa and Yang Sae Hyung have also participated in illegal sports gambling with 4 million, and 2 million dollars.
