How Second Generations Hallyu Stars Are Different From The First

The new generation of Hallyu stars are coming. While actor Bae Yong Joon and actress Choi Ji Woo of the drama "Winter Sonata" (2002) have been considered as the first generation Hallyu stars who were popular internationally, mostly in Japan, the second wave or generation of Hallyu stars are coming up, including actors Lee Min Ho, Kim Soo Hyun, Lee Jong Suk, and Kim Woo Bin. These new generation of Hallyu stars are approaching more fans more quickly and widely using the power of social media, and becoming global stars, approaching the fans in a far more personable way.

One advantage of the new Hallyu stars is that they are recruiting as many international fans at the same speed as they are attracting the fans in Korea. Take a look at actor Bae Yong Joon of the KBS 2 drama "Winter Sonata" for example, which aired in 2002. The drama took a year to broadcast in Japan, with the copyright issues and such, and there was a year of blank state before he became a well known, popular actor in Japan and, ultimately, a Hallyu star.

The Hallyu stars of this generation are hosting international fan meetings in addition to world tours. While the first generation Hallyu stars avoided filming a lot of dramas and movies, the second generation Hallyu stars are trying to film as many dramas and movies as they can, and have at least two successful works.
