Recent charity efforts by Park Hae Jin show that the actor has a big heart.
The actor, who was last seen in "You Who Came From The Stars," is a star whose charitable efforts have been praised in both Korea and China. Last month, he was the first Hallyu star to be honored with a Chinese Civil Award for his donations to help victims of a recent earthquake in China. The actor contributed almost $10,000 to help those victims.
Because of his generosity, he had a Lotte theater in China named after him. The Park Hae Jin Theater officially opened on Feb. 1. But the actor decided that the proceeds from that theater also ought to be donated to charity.
"Park Hae Jin told the Chinese Lotte Cinema with his name Park Hae Jin Theater, that he would like to donate all of the proceeds to charity, said a representative from his agency WM Company.
The proceeds will be used to pay the medical bills for two young children who require surgery. The money will pay for a seven-month-old girl to have heart valve surgery and will sponsor ear reconstruction surgery for a five-year-old boy.
The actor will fly to China on the days that these two children have surgery.
The actor also recently helped to promote another cause that he supports, protecting the environment. He took part in the InStyle Korea charity project called "Love Actually."
As part of that project he and 12 other actors, including Kim Hee Sun, Choi Kang Hee and Han Ji Hye, took photos and the modeling fee was donated to charity. The photos were featured in the magazine's March issue and the event was timed to celebrate the magazine's 11th anniversary.
"Protecting the environment is not an option, but something we all must do, and I think it begins with small things," he said.
The actor is currently preparing for his new drama "Doctor Stranger," which co-stars Lee Jong Suk, Baek Jin Hee and Kang So Ra. He will play Han Jae Joon, a Harvard-educated doctor in that drama.
The actor also appeared in "My Daughter Seo Young" last year but it was his performance as Jun Ji Hyun's unlucky second lead that served as the jolt his career needed to achieve stardom.
He was previously seen the dramas "Hot Blood" and "East of Eden." He also had a role in the film "Snow Is On The Sea."
