Yoon Si Yoon is now officially a marine. The actor who was last seen in the drama "Prime Minister and I," which co-starred Yoona and Lee Bum Soo, reported for duty at the Marine Corps Boot Camp in Pooyang.
A representative from his talent agency, Taxi Entertainment, said that, "Yoon Si Yoon entered the Marines at 1:50 p.m. today. He will carry out his duties as a marine for two years."
The 27-year-old actor has been trying to find the optimal time to enlist for the past two years. In February he applied to serve in the marines. After playing Park Shin Hye's love interest in the 2013 comedy "Flower Boy Next Door," he decided that "The Prime Minister and I" would be his final role before enlisting.
Before his role in "Flower Boy Next Door," the actor appeared in "High Kick 3: The Revenge of the Short Legged," Once Upon A Time in Saengchori," "King of Baking: Kim Tak Goo" and "High Kick Through the Roof."
While filming "The Prime Minister and I," he applied to be accepted into the marines. He was accepted but kept his enlistment date a secret. He did not want to make a fuss.
"We did not announce it due to his request," said the Taxi Entertainment representative. "He wanted to enter as an ordinary Korean male and not receive celebrity treatment."
"Every Korean man has to go into the army," Yoon Si Yoon also said through his agency. "And I did not want to cause any problems for other soldiers because of attention paid to me. I want to fulfill my military duties quietly."
The actor will receive seven weeks of basic training before getting his final assignment.
Other k-drama actors who are expected to enlist this year include Choi Jin Hyuk, who played Lee Min Ho's older brother in "The Heirs" and a doctor divorcee in "Emergency Couple." He will serve as a conscripted policeman in the 47th Seoul Police Promotional Unit of the police corps. He recently chose "Fated To Love You" as his final project before enlistment.
Yoo Ah In, 27, is currently starring as a piano prodigy in "Secret Love Affair" and said that the drama will be his last before he enlists. He also originally wanted to apply for the police promotional unit but decided instead to serve in active duty.
Unconfirmed rumors say that Kim Hyun Joong, who recently starred "Inspiring Generation," will enlist in October. Jang Geun Suk, the star of "Pretty Man" is also expected to enlist this year.
Actors Song Joong Ki and Yoo Seung Ho will finish serving next year.
