A new chapter in the Resident Evil franchise has just been confirmed. Come E3 2014, Resident Evil 7 release date will finally be announced! But what will be the plot of the new RE game? If rumors are true, then we will see the glorious return of Albert Wesker, the game reveal of Alice from the movies and the protagonist of the game would be Claire Redfield!
Japanese publication Sankei Shinbum has reported that Capcom will unveil Resident Evil 7 for PlayStation 4 at E3 in June.
The report also quashes previous speculation that the next chapter in the multi-million selling survival horror franchise was to be an Xbox One exclusive release.
It should be noted though that the PS4 was the only platform mentioned, but that doesn't rule out an Xbox One release; Japanese media typically only mentions PlayStation platforms when it comes to the mainstream press reports.
When Resident Evil 7 was rumoured a few years back, one of the most popular theories going on at the time was the return of Albert Wesker to face his son, Jake and that the protagonist of the story would be Claire Redfield.
The Wesker returns theory was "confirmed" when an alleged employee of Capcom tweeted about Wesker's voice actor going in to the studio to record lines for Wesker and that they are planning to add Alice from the Resident Evil movies to be a playable character in the Resident Evil 7 mercenaries mode.
It should be noted though that the English voice actor for Wesker, DC Douglas, has confirmed that he has not been contacted by Capcom to do voice over work for Wesker which suggests that it was the Japanese voice actor for Wesker that was contacted.
Cyberland also reported that an insider told them that Capcom is planning to go all out in Resident Evil 7's mercenaries mode as not only will they add Alice from the movies into the Mercenaries mode, they would put back almost all of the characters in the series into the mode such as Barry Burton, Carlos Oliveira, Rebecca Chambers, Billy Coen and more!
But again, keep in mind that Capcom hasn't confirmed any of these so you take these reports with a grain of salt.
