An 80-year-old woman died and another woman was seriously injured after a plane reportedly crashed into a Costco parking lot in San Diego Wednesday evening, according to Fox5Sandiego.

The single-engine aircraft reportedly bounced while attempting to land at the Montgomery Field Airport around 5:25p.m. local time before crashing into Costco parking lot in Kearny Mesa, according to Federal Aviation Administration spokesman Ian Gregor.

It is unclear who was piloting the aircraft.

A man waiting for his girlfriend to get off work from Target close to the Costco in San Diego reportedly told Fox5 that he saw the plane hit a light fixture near the Target store and crash into the parking lot.

He reportedly stated that people that were armed with fire extinguishers ran toward the wreckage where black smoke was pouring out.

Local news video footage showed the remains of the aircraft, which had one of its wings and its nose crushed. The FAA and the National Transportation Safety Board will investigate the accident, Gregor stated.

The two women that were severely injured after the crash were reportedly conscious at the scene, but looked "pretty beat up" from the crash, according to the man who witnessed the incident.

San Diego police and fire officials could not be immediately reached for additional comment, according to Reuters.
