Lindsay Lohan news reported how the "Mean Girls" star has suing Fox News for accusing her of doing cocaine together with her mother, Dina Lohan.
According to Lindsay Lohan news reported by USA Today, the once troubled actress and her equally controversial mother filed the defamation lawsuit in New York earlier this week. The case was filed a year after the news station aired a discussion between Sean Hannity and Michelle Fields during the former's TV show.
In the said Feb. 4, 2014 TV discussion, the two hosts talked about the heroin overdose of actor Philip Seymour Hoffman, who passed away two days before the episode. They then went on to cite celebrity overdoses, and mentioned how the Lohans were doing cocaine together.
Court documents specified how Michelle Fields cited as a "matter a fact" that Dina was "doing cocaine" with the former child star. The lawsuit papers also revealed how the hosts stated that Lindsay Lohan could soon join the list of celebrities who died from drug overdoses.
According to Lindsay Lohan news reported by Reuters, a spokesperson said the discussion between Sean Hannity and Michelle Fields, as well as other similar claims, are very damaging to his client.
The former Disney talent is reportedly trying to get back on the right track after years of being in the news for run-ins with the law, substance abuse, and family issues.
"People should be able to feel that if they hear something on TV or read something in the media, it should be truthful," said Mark Heller, a lawyer for the Lohan family.
"Lindsay Lohan is on the way toward restoring her career and getting back on track, and something like this can be very fragile and hurtful to her."
Fox News has responded to the case by issuing an official statement.
"We will defend this case to the fullest," the network's statement said.
"The remark about which Lindsay and Dina Lohan complain was made on live television by a guest nearly a year ago. We removed the segment from our archives altogether last February and also apologized on-air."
"At that time, the Lohans did not make any demands for money, and we are surprised they are doing so now," the statement pointed out.
