Choi Min Sik to Play Robert De Niro’s Character in 'The Intern' Remake

Choi Min Sik is in talks to headline the Korean remake of the Hollywood movie "The Intern."

Released in 2015, the comedy-life movie is directed by Nancy Meyers and stars award-winning actors Robert De Niro and Anne Hathaway.

Following the success of the movie on the international scene, production company Anthology Studio confirms the Korean adaptation production.

In an exclusive report, Kim Han Gyul, who helmed the movie "Pilot," will be directing the Korean adaptation of "The Intern."

Choi Min Sik Offered to Play Ben in 'The Intern' Remake

Interestingly, veteran actor Choi Min Sik might be returning to the big screen after he was offered to play the main lead.

Per reports, the award-winning actor will portray the role of Robert De Niro's character, Ben Whittaker, a 70-year-old widower and retired executive from DEX One, who enters the workforce at an online fashion site.

For him, the reason he decided to work again was because he thought retirement was too boring for him.

Interestingly, he joined the company as a senior intern for the founder and big boss of About the Fit, Jules Ostin, played by Anne Hathaway.

Little did they know that Ben's charm, wit, and wisdom would help him create a special connection with girl boss, Jules, showcasing a friendship that transcends age.

On the other hand, production company Anthology Studio is in its pre-production stage and is "in close contact" with the potential cast members who will be joining the Korean remake.

In addition to this, the company targets starting production in October.

One of the critically acclaimed stars in South Korea, Choi Min Sik previously made headlines for scoring nominations at various award winning bodies for his role in "Exhuma."

Taking on the character of feng shui master Sang Deok, he worked alongside fellow lead stars Kim Go Eun, Lee Dong Eun, and Yoo Hae Jin as they portrayed a group of individuals who could use incantations to unravel mysterious events involving spirits.

As "Exhuma '' dominated the box office, making it the first Korean occult horror movie to surpass 10 million moviegoers, Choi Min Sik was also nominated for Best Actor in the Film category and Most Popular Actor at the 60th Baeksang Arts Awards.

Other than "Exhuma," he also starred in "Big Bet," which has come back to the small screen.

When asked about his thoughts regarding K-content getting more attention in the international scene, especially among the younger actors, Choi Min Sik expressed his satisfaction seeing fellow celebrities thrive globally.

"Given the growing popularity of Korean dramas and films, many Korean actors are receiving global recognition at international award ceremonies and film festivals. And they are shining brightly without trembling with excitement or being nervous," he said, as obtained by the Korea Times.
