Jeon Sook Dies at 98: Veteran Actress Leaves Behind a 60-Year Legacy with 500 Films

Jeon Sook, the actress with the six-decade career in film and theater, died at the age of 98.

According to the report by News1, actor Han Ji Il confirmed that the old actress passed away at the end of last month at aged 98. The funeral was held on October 1. 

Jeon Sook was born in 1926.. She played small roles in the films, starting with her debut in 1955 in "Phoenix Hill". For almost 60 years, the actress became the general-setting of the film industry in Korea, creating images of either commander strong women or caring mother heroines.

Ultimately, she starred in 500 films. "Everyone who shot her and worked with her called this actress 'the salt of the film industry,'" said Han Ji-il.

Jeon Sook's works include the films "The Day I Get Married", "Queen Munjeong" and "The Pirates". Also significant to mention are "Shikgaek: Kimchi Pancake" and 2018 drama "My Only World" - Jeon's last film, where she played at the age of 92.

Jeon Sook was awarded with the top acting prize of the 30th Daejong International Film Festival "Grand Bell" in 1992. She also was named a meritorious filmmaker on the 39th Film Day in 2001.

Director Shin Jung-gyun who worked with Jeon Sook his entire carrier wrote: "No one would call this person a star in the film industry, but I think of her as the salt of the film industry." Han Ji-il also shared his memories of Jeon: "When we collaborated, this lady was the sweetest and warmest woman on the set."
