This Summer's Comedies Sparkle

Summer is the season for daydreaming and the right time  to watch some daydream-inspiring romantic comedies. To make viewers happy drama producers have lined up a few smile-inducing summer candidates.

Here's the roundup of some of the season's happiest dramas.

"Trot Lovers" is already on but it's not too late to catch up. It's the story of a girl who reluctantly becomes a singer and the arrogant has-been singer who has to train her. Jung Eun Ji is plucky and determined. Ji Hyun Woo has lots of aegyo and Shin Sung Rok is such a sweet character in this that it's hard to believe his last role was the villain. The comedy also offers viewers an opportunity to learn all about the style of music known as trot.

"High School King of Manners" is also underway but worth checking out. Seo In Guk is a high school kid who must pretend to also be the director at a corporation. He acts like a teenager but people keep calling his reckless moves confident. Seo In Guk's character does a lot of running. Lee Ha Na plays the office worker who has a hopeless crush on another director played by Lee Soo Hyuk. Seo In Guk rescues then falls for her, which is complicated by the fact that he goes to school with her kid sister.

Just begun, "Fated To Love You" reunites Jang Nara and Jang Hyuk in a story about two mismatched people who wind up in bed together. After the chaebol and secretary wake up they realize what they did. They would like to forget all about it. But she gets pregnant and his family insists he get married. It's full of comic book action and the remake of a very popular Chinese drama.

"Marriage Not Dating" starts this week. It's a marriage contract comedy starring Yeon Woo Jin, Han Groo, and Han Sunhwa. Yeon Woo Jin is a wealthy plastic surgeon with no desire to marry but his parents won't stop bothering him about it. He asks Han Groo to pretend to be his girl so his parents will back off. Odds are he will somehow have to marry her and discover he loves her.

"It's Okay, It's Love," which is also scheduled to start in July is the story of a neurotic writer and the psychologist he goes to see. He's a mystery writer with obsessive-compulsive disorder. She's a first year fellow in a hospital psychiatry department and not so sure she wants to be a therapist. Jo in Sung plays the mystery writer. Gong Hyo Jin plays the psychiatrist.

Tuning into these comedies could make the whole world seem a little brighter.
