"She Was Pretty" won the best ratings among the Wednesday-Thursday dramas, reaching 13.1 percent on October 7. The romantic comedy stars Hwang Jung Eum, Park Seo Joon, Super Junior's Choi Si Won and Go Joon Hee. Ratings rose 2.9 percent coinciding with the escalating romantic tension between the main characters. The seventh episode solidified the love square conflict by having Choi Si Won's character confess his feelings for Hwang Jung Eum's character who he affectionately calls Jackson. At the same time Hwang Jung Eum's formerly pretty character is about to discover that her attractive best friend betrayed her by falling for her first love.
And there was a comic turn from actress Hwang Suk Jung, who plays the Most-est editor with exaggerated flair but in the seventh episode also played the restaurant owner that forced Hang Jung Eum and Park Seo Joon to shovel manure.
The newest drama "The Village: Achiara's Secret" started off with 6.9 percent of the ratings, placing it in third place. The drama stars Moon Geun Young as an English teacher who moves to a peaceful small town only to discover a corpse. It also stars BtoB's Yook Sung Jae as a young policeman. Yook's character wants to identify the corpse and enlists Moon's help in solving the crime. The village may seem peaceful but apparently it has some secrets to disclose.
"The Village: Achiara's Secret" followed the very successful drama "Yong Pal, starring Kim Tae Hee and Joo Won. "Yong Pal" rated 20.4 percent of the viewers and was a hard act to follow. Following a highly rated drama can sometimes boost the ratings of the drama that follows but that was not the case with "The Village: Achiara's Secret."
In second place, but not so far ahead that it can discount the competition, is the KBS drama "The Merchant: Gaekju 2015." The drama, which stars Jang Hyuk, Yu Oh Sung and Kim Min Jung, rated 7.8 percent, which is 1.1 percent more than the previous episode.
The drama is based on the novel "Gaekju" by Kim Joo Young, which was published in The Seoul Shinmun from 1979 to 1983. It's the story of a Joseon era merchant who manages to become a success while keeping his principles intact.
Which drama will take second place next week? The saeguk or the mystery thriller? What do you think?
