"The Voice" coach Blake Shelton sued a tabloid before the Los Angeles County Superior Court for $1 million after making up a false story regarding the divorce with Miranda Lambert.
A report from Rolling Stone said that Blake Shelton was livid over the article from In Touch Weekly that accused him of going to rehab because of his uncontrollable drinking habits.
But that's not all, the tabloid-published by Bauer Publishing Co.-also claimed that it was Blake Shelton's drinking problem which led to the divorce with Miranda Lambert. The tabloid also claimed to have talked to a source who allegedly said that at the rate "The Voice" coach is drinking, he might end up dead.
The couple released a joint statement announcing their divorce in July this year.
"This is not the future we envisioned and it is with heavy hearts that we move forward separately," the statement read. "We are real people, with real lives, with real families, friends and colleagues. Therefore, we kindly ask for privacy and compassion concerning this very personal matter."
Apart from the $1 million defamation suit, "The Voice" coach also wanted an injunction against In Touch Weekly to stop publishing false stories against him.
The lawsuit alleged, "Mr. Shelton is not in rehab and has no plans to go to rehab, which Bauer would have known had it bothered to contact any of Mr. Shelton's representatives prior to publication of its misleading Rehab Story."
Meanwhile, Blake Shelton and Miranda Lambert would be reuniting for the first time since the divorce during the CMAs.
"The CMAs announced the Nov. 4 show's lineup of performers on Monday, Oct. 19," said Closer Weekly. "The night's talent roster also includes Luke Bryan, Jason Aldean, Eric Church, Keith Urban, Hank Williams Jr. and Kacey Musgraves. The annual award ceremony will be hosted by Carrie Underwood and Brad Paisley."
