Reckoning The Scariest Video Games; 'Dead Space,' 'Amnesia: The Dark Descent,' 'PT' And More

Halloween! It is a great time to reckon "spooky" stuff and since it is the Internet age, talking about the scariest video games can be appropriately fun.

There are scary films but video games evoke more fear because they are interactive and the fear sensation lasts longer. Windows Central asked some staff about what for them is the scariest video game.

"Slender: The Arrival" will make the gamer feel hopeless. A slender man runs after him through various levels and what he can do is just run and hopes he is not caught. However, running is just for a short distance as the gamer gets tired, he has nothing to defend himself. He is screwed.

The game "Silent Hill" on PlayStation 1 and 2 has yet to be challenged by contemporary horror video games. The story is about an American town bothered by an esoteric cult with its insane rituals, violent and tortured spirits, as well as old and evil gods. The chillingly detailed "Silent Hill" relied on razor sharp aesthetics and atmospheric terror, instead of jump scares.

No other game has scared some gamers than the original "Dead Space." The game's setting is in space. The gamer plays as Isaac Clarke, who travels in a mining ship which sent a distress signal for help.

Reaching a certain place, Clarke feels everyone abandoned the ship for some odd reasons, only to find out that everyone were actually killed by Necropmorphs, the scary-looking and smart zombie-alien hybrids.

One of the scariest video games of all time, "Dead Space" makes the gamer feels very vulnerable and alone. It is a survival horror one where ammo is scarce and the gamer relies on health kits to survive. The game added a "survival feature" called "dismemberment" that holds a lot of consequences when things were not done right.

The gamer cannot just fire at a Necromorph to kill it because things are too fast for him to fire enough bullets, and it is noteworthy that bullets are scarce. Instead, he can shoot off its legs so they slow down and then shoot the head. Taking both of their legs will have them crawl, but before the player realizes it, they are already crawling towards him.

IGN also recommends "Amnesia: The Dark Descent," "Until Dawn," "P.T.," "Alien: Isolation," "Condemned: Criminal Origins," "Fatal Frame 2: Crimson Butterfly" and "Outlast" as among the scariest video games.
