Actress Park Chae Rim is the latest kdrama star to be accused of having plastic surgery but her agency, Sidus HQ, says that such claims are ridiculous.
The rumors began last week when the actress was seen on an episode of the KBS show "Stars Falling In Love With Travel." Rumors implied that the star of the dramas "All About Eve" and "Dalja's Spring" recently went under the knife.
But her agency says that not only are the rumors false, they are just silly when you consider the show's timing.
"She did not get plastic surgery," said the Sidus representative. "The program was filmed last year. Since the program was made for overseas broadcast, it was shown in Japan and China first, then in Korea. The rumor that she recently got plastic surgery doesn't make sense."
Chae Rim is a big Hallyu star, popular in China and Taiwan and she has filmed several dramas there. She recently filmed the Chinese drama "The Lee Family." She is currently considering more offers in China and has not made a Korean drama since 2010, when she starred in "Oh! My Lady," with Choi Siwon of Super Junior. In that drama he played a top star and she played his manager.
It's not the first time a celebrity in Korea was accused of having plastic surgery done. Aesthetic procedures have become so popular there, it's estimated that one in five women have had some kind of work done. Popular procedures include making eyes wider, getting double eyelids and having your jawbone altered so it is closer to a v-shape.
Although plastic surgery is increasingly popular in Korea, many stars that are accused of having work done, say that it's just not so. Among these stars are Han Ga In and Jang Dong Gun. Both have shown fans childhood pictures to prove how groundless the claims are.
As such procedures become more common, some of the celebrities who have had work done are admitting it. For example, actress Lee Da Hae, who appeared in "Iris 2," recently admitted to having minor work done. So did actress Kim Yoon Hye, who appeared in "Flower Boys Next Door" and "Heartstrings."
But many claims are only based in malicious gossip.
In "The Lee Family," Chae Rim plays a young widow who uses her intelligence and business skills to lead her family. As to plastic surgery, she never said she would not have any, but she's only in her 30s and she looks great.
