Casey Kasem's wife lost a huge amount of money in a controversial legal battle with the late radio star's first family.
According to a report from TMZ, Casey Kasem's adult children with ex-wife Linda Kasem were named as the official beneficiaries of his $2 million life insurance policy.
The "American Top 40" host's widow, Jean Kasem, allegedly tried to keep the said amount away from her stepkids, namely Kerri Kasem, Mike Kasem and Julie Kasem.
The insurer, Metlife, was reportedly instructed to not release insurance money because of allegations that Casey Kasem's children from his first family contributed to the media personality's passing in June 2014.
However, Casey Kasem's wife was also accused by her stepchildren of neglecting their father and causing his death.
In a court decision released earlier this week, Kerri Kasem and her siblings were named as the sole and rightful beneficiary of their father's $2 million life insurance.
The legal battle over the beloved radio star's insurance policies came after Casey Kasem was buried by his wife without informing his first family.
Per a previous report from ABC News, Jean Kasem proceeded with a secret burial in Norway after being chased by family and friends of her late husband.
Kerri Kasem explained in several reports that their father specifically instructed that he wanted to be buried at Forest Lawn Hollywood Hills.
"Jean buried him without telling the kids," said Danny Deraney, the legal rep of Casey Kasem's first family.
"[Casey Kasem's first family] is clearly not happy, but they are also at peace knowing that they got to spend his final moments with him."
Another report from Westside Today explained that even though Jean Kasem was publicly criticized for keeping Casey Kasem's burial a secret from his children, the law clearly states that she is rightful keeper of her late husband's remains.
"(Jean Kasem) did not have to tell them since she is the conservator over his remains," Danny Deraney admitted.
