Chansung Plays A Gangster In Love

Hwang Chansung of 2PM has landed his first leading role. He will play Lee Hyung Joo, a mobster in the one-episode drama special "Your Noir."

As the youngest member of a gang, he is assigned to trail a prosecutor who has targeted the gang. He also has to observe the prosecutor's wife, played by Chae Jung An.

But that's where things get complicated. The prosecutor's wife happens to be his old high school teacher and the woman he used to have a crush on. The love he still feels for the prosecutor's wife creates a dangerous conflict.

According to the drama special's production company, it was Chansung's passionate approach to acting that landed him the part and reinforced the company's belief that he is the perfect actor to play Lee Hyung Joo.

"During script rehearsals and meetings with the director he has really shown his passionate side," said a member of the production staff.

But it was also the fact that the singer is a trained martial artist that interested the production company. Chansung has achieved high levels in both Taekwondo and Kumdo, a modern Korean martial art that uses a bamboo sword.

"Considering that the main character is athletic and a member of the judo club, we were especially interested in getting Chansung who fits both the athleticism and superior physique of the character," said the production company staff member.

Chansung's first big acting role was in "Level 7 Civil Servant" when he played Gong Do Ha, the National Intelligence Service rookie officer, who misguidedly aligns with the wrong faction. His character was also in love with a fellow agent played by Choi Kang Hee. His rival for her affections was Joo Won.

"Even though it was his first time acting, he did very well," said his "Level 7" co-star Ahn Nae Sang.

But although Gong Do Ha was Chansung's first big role, it was certainly not his first acting part. Before the youngest member of 2PM ever joined the group, he was an actor, having played small roles in "Unstoppable High Kick" and "Jungle Fish." It was being named a finalist in the show "Superstar Survival," that solidified his singing career. Now he can do both of the things he's good at-singing and acting.

Hong Kyoung In, who appeared in the film "Secretly Greatly" and the drama "Queen Seonduk," will play the prosecutor that Chansung must follow. Chae Jung An was last seen in "When A Man Loves" with Song Seung Hoon and Shin Se Kyung."

Producer Lee So Yeon of "Babyfaced Beauty" and screenwriter Kim Wook of "The Princess' Man" are working on this drama special. Filming began Aug. 24 and the drama will be shown on Oct. 2
