George Clooney, Hollywood director and activist, visited Edinburgh on November 10, 2015 to attend the "Scottish Business Awards," according to BBC news. It was his first visit to Scotland after 2005. He was invited to the award ceremony by Josh LittleJohn, founder of Social Bite cafe and Scottish Business Awards. His visit for the day was planned beforehand, starting with visiting Social Bite cafe in the morning, then lunch with a wedding planner followed by speech at Scottish Business Awards ceremony, reported BBC News.
George visited the "Social Bite" cafe early in the morning where he was greeted with the staff at the cafe and around 200 fans waiting since 7am in the morning just to catch a glimpse of their favorite actor. He posed for selfies with the fans and also chatted with the people and media for a while. The founder of the cafe, John was also present at the venue to welcome the superstar. John talked about Clooney's commitment towards humanitarian causes and told the media how they got in contact with the actor's charity organization in Sudan and gave him an invitation to visit Scotland.
According to The Guardian, the "Social Bite" cafe in the Edinburgh city is famous for its social activities rage and charities. The cafe donates all its profits for the development of the homeless people. It has programs through which customers can donate money to buy food or hot beverage for destitute people. The shop provides its customers with loyalty cards named as "Selfless" which accumulate loyalty points when a customer donates for to feed the homeless people.
Many of the workers in the cafe were previously homeless and have been supported through employment opportunities at the shop. The cafe is famous for its sandwiches and wraps with Lorne sausage and tattie scones, reported The Guardian. Apart from Edinburgh, the sandwich shop has five outlets in total which are located at different locations like Glasgow and Aberdeen.
The "Gravity" actor did buy an avocado-pepper-pesto wrap and also donated $1000 to the social cafe to help for the cause from his side. He also commented on the work of the cafe saying,"I like what they're doing, I think it's a very important cause. I think the idea that we can all participate in everyone's difficulties is really important," quoted BBC News.
The actor then headed to meet Heather McGowan, a wedding planner from Glasgow, who won a fundraising competition to meet the star, after spending almost 15 minutes at the cafe. George treated her with lunch at TigerLily Bar in Edinburgh city and talked about American Football, politics and business and his marriage to Amal. Heather narrated her lunch date with Clooney as a dream date for her. She described George as the most charismatic person alive on earth.
The wedding planner expressed how she had to control her emotions all the time due to high level of excitement so as to keep herself calm while with the actor. The actor gave Heather an advice on how to make successful investments, which she described as the learning of the day. The "Oceans" series star also made a quick visit to "People's Postcode Lottery" where he received £175,000 for his charity institution, reported The Guardian.
The last stop for the day for George was Scottish Business Awards hosted by Rob Brydon, comedian and actor. The amount collected through the fundraiser awards show are to be donated to various charities including Clooney's own charity organization called "Not on Our Watch", which he co-founded with Brad Pitt and Matt Damon.
