How To Throw A Kdrama (Pajama) Party

While watching kdramas is always fun, it's even more entertaining when you're enjoying them with friends.

If you don't have any friends who already like kdrama, there is an easy way to introduce them to this guilty pleasure.

You could throw a kdrama party.

All you need is a TV that streams dramas from an online site or a computer screen that's big enough so everyone won't get eyestrain. Or you could get a DVD of the few dramas that are available with decent subtitles. "You're Beautiful" is one example.

A kdrama party can be easy to organize.

Once you have your viewing platform down, all you have to plan for is the drinks and snacks you are going to serve.

The first step is to stock up on tasty kdrama snacks. It's not always easy to do if you don't live near an Asian market, but here are a few ideas for both options.

If you do live near an Asian food market, you can buy spicy rice cakes and dried squid. Or you can find a recipe online for a simple dish such as jjajangmyeon (black bean noodles) or seaweed soup, then buy the ingredient and make the dish. And if it's really hard to get the right ingredients or you don't have time to cook, you can always serve supermarket instant ramen or heaps of fried chicken, the celebratory food eaten in so many kdramas.

If those attending the party are old enough, you may want to serve some soju. It comes in flavors such as aloe, lemon or yogurt.

And for dessert, sliced fruit.

What you watch during your party depends on whether or not your guests have already seen some kdrama. It's probably not a good idea to start with a melodrama.

Some fun dramas to start novice viewers on are "You're Beautiful," "Boys Over Flowers," "Coffee Prince," Princess Hours," My Lovely Kim Sam Soon," "Shut Up Flower Boy Band" and "City Hunter."

You could even start them on this year's favorite drama "I Hear Your Voice."

And if you are planning on marathoning an entire drama, you will have to choose one that is already finished. At that point, your party may turn into a kdrama pajama party. It's an easy party to host because once your guests have found out how much fun kdramas can be you won't have to keep them entertained.
