The highly anticipated romantic comedy, "Uncontrollably Fond," starring Kim Woo Bin and Miss A's Suzy is the latest drama to trade out live filming for post-production airing.
On November 17, KBS announced that the upcoming series would be broadcast after 100 percent of the production was completed.
An article published by XSports News on Nate examined the decision by producers to embrace post-production airing, a practice that is commonplace in Hollywood.
In the series, which is also known by the working title "Indiscreetly Fondly," Kim Woo Bin portrays Shin Joon Young, a top acting idol. Suzy is No Eul, a documentarian, who was childhood friends with Joon Young before they were painfully separated.
"Uncontrollably Fond" marks the K-Drama return for both stars, who have actively embarked on cinematic careers.
Suzy is currently the star of the pansori film, "The Sound of the Flower" or "Dorihwaga."
Kim followed the success of the 2013 teen drama, "The Heirs," by taking on leading roles in the heist film, "The Con Artists," and the coming-of-age comedy, "Twenty."
Korean drama is distinguished by live taping, a unique filming style which allows audience feedback to influence storylines and shape conclusions, but the upcoming KBS series, "Descendant of the Sun" could mark a new age for future television productions.
It is a bold move by KBS, a network that has struggled with several rating flops in 2015, including dramas like "Blood" and "Orange Marmalade."
By airing series after production has concluded, the network has the opportunity to quickly deliver the entire run of a program to DVD box set or broadcast the entire run of a drama, which is demonstrative of the successful Netflix model, which targets binge viewing.
"Uncontrollably Fond" is slated to premiere in 2016.
