Son Ye Jin has been getting a lot of press for her upcoming film "Pirates," in which she will play the captain of a pirate ship. In that film she will band together with "Shark" co-star Kim Nam Gil to rescue royal treasure from a ghost whale.

But this month she can be seen in another film, one with less fanciful subject matter. In the film "Accomplice," Son Ye Jin plays Da Eun, a woman who realizes that her loving father may be a serial kidnapper who abducted and killed at least one child.

The story begins two weeks before the statue of limitations runs out on the kidnapping crime. After listening to a recording of the prime suspect in the case, Da Eun is sure that it is her father's voice. Because she loves her father she is torn between discovering the truth and preserving her image of him.

"I play the loving daughter who gets embroiled in a tornado of emotions and overwhelming confusion," said Son Ye Jin at the recent press conference for the film, which is based on the real-life kidnapping and murder of two children.

Kim Kap Soo, who appeared in "Iris," You're The Best Lee Soon Shin," "The Secret of Birth," and "Cinderella's Sister," plays Son Man, her father.

"Accomplice" began filming in June of 2012 and shooting ended in October of 2012, but the film is only being released this month.

At the film's recent press conference, neither Son nor Kim had anything to say about the delay in the film's release but they did talk about how difficult it was to portray the characters.

"I did not expect the movie to be so hard," said Kim. "The range of emotions we had to express was huge. Every scene was hard for me because I had to deliver so many feelings from frustration to pain to love."

Son was so emotionally exhausted when the movie ended that she took a short vacation.

"I took a break for a month or two after finishing my shoots for the film," she said. "I went on a trip, and had good food and slept a lot. That's what constitutes a good break for me."

Last year was a busy year for Son. Besides filming "Accomplice," she starred in the blockbuster, "The Tower," which was a remake of the Hollywood film. Then this year she took a leading role in the revenge drama "Shark," also called "Don't Look Back: The Legend of Orpheus."

"Accomplice" will be released on Oct. 10.
