In a recent interview with the Korean media outlet Star News, Suzy Bae spoke about her new film "The Sound of a Flower," aka "Dorihwaga." And she discussed the film's complicated loveline.

In the film Suzy plays Jin Chae Seon, the first female pansori singer. Pansori is a form of musical storytelling that is performed by a vocalist and a drummer. Originally a form of musical entertainment enjoyed by the common people, it eventually became performed at court. Only men could perform it.

Suzy's character wants to study pansori with the teacher Shin Jae Hyo, played by Ryu Seung Ryong. He refuses at first. Even taking her on as a student could result in a death sentence for both of them. But seeing her determination he eventually relents. She idolizes him.

The Star asked Suzy about the working relationship between her and her co-star Ryu Seung Ryong. She said there were no difficulties. In fact, he treated her much as a mentor would. He taught her about the correct posture and how to take notes on her scripts. He supported her and she relied on him.

"He was good to me and made me feel comfortable. He was very reassuring. I relied on him a lot. I really felt his words when he would compliment me."

The relationship between their characters was complicated.

"I think it was a lot of things for Chae Seon. She respected the master who recognized her and loved him. I think her emotions were a little bit of everything. Resenting him is also part of love, but they couldn't be as free about their emotions as they are student and master."

If Suzy was happy to work with Ryu Seung Ryong, the feeling was mutual. On the November 22 episode of the program "Section TV, he had nothing but kind words for his co-star.

"There was a huge difference on set between the days she was there and the days she wasn't. She made it an enjoyable filming experience for everyone involved with her positive energy and cheerful passion."

The film is only Suzy's second. She appeared in the film "Architecture 101" with Han Ga In, Uhm Tae Woong and lee Je Hoon. She also appeared in two dramas, Gu Family Book" and "Dream High."

Ryu Seung Ryong has many more films to his credit, including "Miracle in Cell Number 7," "The Target," "The Admiral: Roaring Currents" and "Five Senses of Love." He appeared in a few dramas, including "Painter in the Wind," "Iris" and played a man in love with Suzy's real life boyfriend Lee Min Ho in "Personal Taste."
