The social networking service company, Facebook has recently launched a new feature for its users of live video streaming, according to Digital Trends.

Facebook users can now stream live videos on their timelines from any place they want. The new stream service will also showcase the name of friends, their comments on a real-time basis and will display the number of viewers who are watching the video live.

BBC News reported that the users will be provided with a "live video icon" in the status box on their timelines. The users will be able to write a short description about the live video and then broadcast it on their timeline to a particular set of friends.

Facebook tried out the latest feature of live streaming with selected group of high profile users and celebrities. After successful testing of the service, it has now been launched for selected iPhones users in the United States.

The technology giant company plans to roll out the service for all the Facebook users worldwide in near future, but no time frame has been conveyed.

"Live lets you show the people you care about what you're seeing in real time - whether visiting a new place, cooking your favorite recipe or just want to share some thoughts," stated Facebook's product managers Vadim Lavrusik, in its official blogpost, reported CNBC.

Research Analyst, Ian Maude considered this new strategy from Facebook to compete with other live streaming service providers like Periscope and Meerkat.

He also commented that Facebook will have to consider all the gray areas regarding the service like privacy issues and restrictions to access content, which may be a setback if malfunctioned.

Recently, Mark Zuckerberg also commented on the new feature from Facebook saying that the company would share the revenue generated from the video views with the video content creators and thus motivate them to roll in more people streaming live videos, reported Chicago Sun-Times.
