December 8, 2015, marked the 35th death anniversary of John Lennon, the lead singer of famous rock band "The Beatles," according to Billboard.
The legendary rock star was brutally murdered by Mark David Chapman when he was taking a late night stroll with his wife outside his apartment in Manhattan. John was shot five times and suffered severe wounds on his chest, arm and back and was rushed to a nearby hospital, but died moments after he was hospitalized.
Metro reported that Mark confessed during his hearing sessions that he killed the ex-Beatle band member, John. In 2010, he also revealed that he had earlier considered shooting Johnny Carson, television host or Elizabeth Taylor, British-American actress, instead of John Lennon, but found them less accessible. He also confessed that he had no particular motive to kill Lennon.
Chapman was sentenced to 20 years of life imprisonment after he was found guilty of his crime. Mark was denied parole last year even after he stated that he regrets killing John and also apologized for choosing a wrong way to gain fame, reported International Business Times.
Lennon's death also provoked a gun-control debate that time leading discussions to the violence caused by improper rules and regulations over the ownership of the guns.
John's wife, Yoko Ono remarked his death anniversary by posting an image of Lennon's blood covered glasses on Twitter. She also captioned the picture with a small message against the gun violence in the country.
"Over 1,100,000 people killed by guns in the USA since John Lennon was shot and killed on Dec 8, 1980," wrote Yoko Ono, reported MSNBC.
The Beatles became popular in the early 1960s introducing a different music style for the rock music lovers. John has composed many songs for the rock band. John was looked upon as a Youth icon in the late 80's. He was well known as a leader of the peace movement.
John's famous rock songs include "Imagine, Mother, Mind Games, Happy Xmas (War is Over), Jealous guy and Starting over."
