A small video was recently posted on YouTube channel of "Last Week Tonight with John Oliver," exclusively for the ongoing Holiday season on Sunday night, according to Los Angeles Times.
John Oliver shared an important message of re-gifting for the holiday season via the short exclusive clip on YouTube. He expressed his views on the re-gifting ideas and Secret Santa concept.
"At some point this month, you will unwrap a present that induces the sort of jaw-dropping disappointment that one normally associates with the term, lettuce wrap of edible dishes or stuffed toys," said John in the video, reported Hollywood Life.
Entertainment Weekly reported that John emphasized on the fact to avoid gifting to someone who can guess from whom the gift has arrived, like an engagement ring from fiancé. He said that it can be a serious mood spoiler for the holiday season as people expect surprise gifts for Christmas.
Oliver made a point to write personalized messages with the gifts so that the receiver feels the importance and happiness. He also urged to write the messages with a small amount of common sense. Like while gifting self-help books or wine, John asked to avoid writing a message which sends a message in wrong sense and hits on the sender itself, USA Today.
The talk show host also promoted the use of gift bags as a minimal requirement while re-gifting this holiday season. John explained that re-wrapping a gift or at least, using a gifting bag to cover the gifts will surely make the receiver of the gift happy.
Time reported that John also commented on the re-gifting limit, that it should be limited to one gift per person. He also suggested one of the best places to utilize this re-gifting idea. Oliver said that "Secret Santa" tradition at the office party can be seen as a wonderful place to unveil personal gifting ideas combining with his re-gifting short notes.
The late-night talk show, Last Week Tonight with John Oliver is currently on hiatus and will return on HBO next year in February 2016.
