According to the Korean media outlet The Star, three actors are seen as being the leading candidates for the 2015 MBC Grand Prize or Daesang Award. The awards ceremony is held at the end of every year to honor the best MBC dramas and the performances of the actors who starred in them.
Who will it be this year? The contenders are an actress with two hit comedies, another actress with a highly-rated weekend drama and an actor who played multiple personalities in a drama.
If you guessed Hwang Jung Eum, Jeon In Hwa and Ji Sung, you are right.
Hwang Jung Eum is up for her roles as a psychologist in "Kill Me, Heal Me" and a frumpy wanna-be author in "She Was Pretty."
Jeon In Hwa is up for her role as a character out for revenge in the weekend drama "My Daughter Geum Sa Wol." The drama reached 30 percent in the ratings.
Last but not least is Ji Sung, who played a man with dissociative identity disorder in "Kill me Heal Me." He played one character with several distinct personalities. His character's various manifestations ranged from a high school girl to a motorcycle riding bad boy.
Rumors say the odds favor Jeon In Hwa for her role in "My Daughter Geum Sa Wol." The winners sometimes come from weekday dramas and sometimes from weekend ones.
Ha Ji Won won the Grand Prize for her title role in the 2013 Monday-Tuesday drama "Empress Ki," Lee Yoo Ri won the Daesang in 2014 for her role in the weekend drama "Jang Bo Ri Is Here." In 2012 the winner was Jo Seung Woo for his role in the Monday-Tuesday night drama "The King's Doctor."
MBC dramas in 2015 include the Monday-Tuesday dramas "Shine Or Go Crazy," "Splendid Politics," and "Glamorous Temptation." The Wednesday-Thursday dramas were "Kill Me, Heal Me," "Angry Mom," "Warm and Cozy," "Scholar Who Walks The Night," "She Was Pretty," and "Sweet Savage Family." Weekend dramas were "Rosy Lovers," "Make A Woman Cry," "My Mom," "Queen's Flower" and "My Daughter Geum Sal Wol."
