Hyeri of Girl's Day is on track to unseat Miss A's Suzy as the new queen of commercial film (CF) endorsements in 2016, a garnering a title that is popularly referred to as the "10 billion won girl" by Korean media.
According to an article published by Ilgan Sports on January 6, Hyeri secured more than 15 commercial spokesmodel opportunities in 2016 and is expected to film more than 10 remaining spots throughout the year.
With her increased endorsements, the acting idol will likely exceed the televised advertisements of Suzy, who at the height of her popularity in 2014 filmed 25 commercials. However, Suzy is currently contracted for seven commercial spots.
"Suzy beat other girl group members as the top endorsement (CF) model, but her [relationship] with Lee Min Ho and the box-office failure of her movie, placed a divide between her and the advertising industry," said an unnamed industry insider, in a quote provided to Ilgan Sports.
In March 2015, the 21-year-old idol and actress confirmed that she was dating 28-year-old Hallyu star Lee Min Ho. While the announcement may have had little effect on his popularity as a spokesmodel, it appears as though their relationship may have impacted the commercial appeal of Suzy.
Suzy experienced a meteoric rise beyond JYP Entertainment's girl group, Miss A, following her role in the popular teen musical, "Dream High" and her portrayal of young Yang Seo Yeon in the film, "Architecture 101."
The article went on to highlight the growing popularity of Hyeri, who currently leads the cast of tvN's hit family drama, "Reply 1988."
Hyeri won over domestic audiences with her scrappy personality on the rigorous military-themed variety show, "Real Men," before capturing drama fans as Duk Sun, the dimwitted and lovable heroine of the latest installment in the "Reply" series.
"In addition to her current ads, there are dozens of remaining [commerical] shoots," said an advertising agent, in regards to the upcoming opportunities that have been offered to Hyeri.
Meanwhile, "Reply 1988" is scheduled to complete its 16-episode run on January 16. Suzy will return to Korean drama, opposite "Twenty" heartthrob Kim Woo Bin in the highly-anticipated KBS2 series, "Uncontrollably Fond."
