After six years together, Miranda Kerr and Orlando Bloom have announced in a statement that they are separating.

E! News confirmed that the couple has separated. "In a joint statement, Orlando Bloom and Miranda Kerr have announced that they have been amicably separated for the past few months," the rep said in a statement. "After six years together, they have recently decided to formalize their separation."

"Despite this being the end of their marriage, they love, support and respect each other as both parents of their son and as family."

This is somewhat surprising as they seemed to be a picture of a happy family when they were last photographed having a dinner date with their son, Flynn, Daily Telegraph reported

Bloom is starring in the Broadway production of Romeo and Juliet. Kerr attended the opening night and she praised Bloom in the November issue of Cosmopolitan: "When I saw Orlando on Broadway in 'Romeo and Juliet', I was blown away. For someone to be able to learn all that and hold the energy to do it every day, six days a week - I have so much respect for him."

The 36-year-old actor and the 30-year-old supermodel began dating in 2007. They were married in July 2010 after only announcing it a month before. Their son, Flynn, was born on Jan. 6, 2011.

The two have faced rumors that their marriage is on the rocks since last year. But the two have denied the rumors and their family members also defended the couple's marriage.

Annie Kelly, Kerr's manager, denied the claims at that time: "There is absolutely no truth in the headline or story."

Even Bloom's mother defended the couple saying that the two are "very happy."

One thing's for sure at the moment, the couple will do anything for their son, Flynn. They have been proud to express their love for their son.

Bloom told InStyle magazine: "I won't spend more than two or three weeks away from him."

Kerr also "doesn't spend more than a week" away from Flynn because "she won't, she can't."
