"Descendants of the Sun" conquered tvN's reign as the purveyor of the most popular dramas. The KBS romantic action drama dominated news articles, social media, and blog posts, making it the most talked about television series.

According to an English-language article published by The Korea Times, "Descendants of Sun" replaced "Cheese in the Trap" on a list compiled by Good Data Corporation, a firm which analyzes popular programs on terrestrial television and cable.

For 15-weeks, tvN topped the Good Data Corporation list through its consecutive release of dramas including "Reply 1988."

"Descendants of Sun" displaced "Cheese in the Trap" for the number one spot, pushing the collegiate comedy to second place, followed by the supernatural detective series, "Signal."

The action-packed drama marks a triumph for KBS, a network which suffered from several lackluster primetime shows in 2015.

Viewers and critics have praised the charismatic performances of Song Joong Ki, who stars as Shi Jin, the captain of a special forces unit, and Song Hye Kyo, who portrays Dr. Mo Yeon.

The series premiered on February 24 with 14.3 percent in nationwide viewership and increased its audience to 15.5 percent, with its second episode.

Set within a fictitious war-torn nation, "Descendants of the Sun" is a trendsetting series which premiered after the completion of its production, potentially marking an end to Korea's live taping model. The drama is simultaneously airing in Korea and China.

Meanwhile, "Cheese in the Trap" is approaching the end of its 16 episode run.

The series, which was once lauded for its innovative interpretation of the popular webtoon is the center of controversy, following allegations that producer-director, Lee Yoon Jung, deliberately edited out scenes featuring Park Hae Jin.
