3 Actresses on Propofol Abuse: "Didn't know it would be a Crime"

The actresses, who were charged with alleged abuse of the illicit psychotropic sleep inducer propofol, pleaded for leniency in tears.

On the hearing which took place in the Seoul Central District Court, No. 523 (Judge Sung Soo Jae) on October 28, 2013, for actresses Lee Seung Yeon (45), Park Shi Yeon (34 nee Park Mi Sun) and Jang Mi In Ae cried in tears, all saying, "I didn't know it would be a crime." On this day, the Prosecutor's Office charged Jang Mi In Ae to 10 months of imprisonment, and Lee Seung Yeon and Park Shi Yeon to 8 months of imprisonment. Jang Mi In Ae in the final statement said, "I'm sorry for all of this. People say not knowing is a sin, and I think this is true in my case," revealing chagrin.

Jang Mi In Ae added, "There was a limit to losing weight by exercising and dieting while working as an actress. I did not know it would be a crime to take propofol under the doctor's administration."

The lawyer for three actresses said, "The actresses took the prescribed medicine in the hospital according to the legal procedures, and there was never a request from the actresses on additional procedure for propofol." The lawyer added, "The Prosecutor's Office claims the abuse was a conspiracy with the doctors, but there is only circumstantial evidence, but no substantial evidence," claiming accuital of the women.

The sentence on the three actresses is on November 25, 2013.
