"Blood" co-stars and newlyweds, Ahn Jae-hyeon and Koo Hye-seon will be featured in a new tvN reality show. Will their love survive under public scrutiny?
Ahn Jae-hyeon and Koo Hye-seon's drama, "Blood" suffered from low ratings, and became a professional embarrassment for both of them. The vampire medical drama was Ahn Jae-hyeon's first starring role, and Korean netizens felt that he was not yet equipped to lead a drama. Yet, Koo Hye-seon was the one that producers threw under the bus when they chose to acknowledge criticisms about her acting. Poor Koo Hye-seon ended up publicly apologizing to the production team and her co-stars. The truth is that actors don't act in a vacuum, and the director should have taken on some of the blame for failing to direct her to quit with the weird accent and awkward mannerisms.
Who knew that love would bloom in the midst of this disaster? Ahn Jae-hyeon and Koo Hye-seon started dating shortly after "Blood" ended, and this was quickly followed by marriage a year later on May 21, 2016.
Now, Ahn Jae-hyeon and Koo Hye-seon's honeymoon period will be on public view in a reality show, "Newlywed Diary". The poster makes it look like a romantic comedy, but the trailer shows a subdued, yet silly slice-of-life quality to the show.
Normally, I would be against the idea of any newlywed couple putting their love on display; it is ill advised to put a fledgling marriage under additional stress. However, considering the pile of ashes that Ahn Jae-hyeon and Koo Hye-seon built their relationship out of, it would seem that the couple are capable of weathering substantial storms.
Call me cynical, but when I first heard about Ahn Jae-hyeon and Koo Hye-seon dating, I initially assumed that it was a PR stunt to mitigate the damage done to their careers by "Blood". Imagine my surprise when I heard they were getting married, and now, a reality show will let us peek into their marriage. Even with the assumption that Ahn Jae-hyeon and Koo Hye-seon entered their marriage for the right reasons, their relationship has definitely proven to be a professional boon.
