The Short, Honest Plot
A world where people use an app which allows the person you like to know that you're into them.
What I Think:
K-dramas seem to be evolving nowadays. Most writers really know how to incorporate cutting-edge, sci-fi, techy themes into the stories. This brings a unique flavor to the common formulas of Korean television.
It really explains Korean culture in a modern way. Some common plots we know are poor girl-rich guy, forced cohabitation, love triangle, etc.
On the other hand, I enjoyed young love K-dramas because the wholesome characters portray realistic things that happen in a young adult's life. This can make you melodramatic because it talks about being loved and rejected.
I was excited to watch this drama because it's directed by Lee Na Jeong. She also directed favorite K-drama, "Fight for My Way". Lee Na Jeong navigated the theme of "Love Alarm" expertly. There was a prominent app figuring in the plot but she made you focus more on the drama's main characters.
The interesting app was used to explore human emotions and interactions. Will the app change how we perceive Love? I only watched 8 episodes and I cannot conclude anything yet. There are more upcoming episodes to see where the story will be headed. The large part of the 1st season was used to introduce the characters and to set up the plot. It is safe to say that the story is still in the early stages.
Honestly, I am not a fan of dividing romantic K-dramas into seasons. I think they are meant to be released and watched regularly. That is why K-dramas are perfectly made for binge-watching. It should be to entertain us and not to make us wait for months.
I think that they should release dramas in full in the future. It will be harder to track the plot because there are various K-dramas. Some viewers may lose interest because they will have to wait several months to see the next season.
Fans who are intrigued by the concept of the Love Alarm App will also enjoy the show, especially how it affects the way we relate to one another.
I will recommend "Love Alarm" to my friends who also love romantic dramas. I am sure they will be able to relate to what Jojo, Hye-young, and Sun-oh are going through. The drama show follows our characters from high school to college, so we can expect a lot of twists and new characters. Fans intrigued by the concept of the Love Alarm App will love the storyline and how the characters' lives will change.
