In the interview, Director Jang Hyuk Ki talked about the main male character of the film and said, "We had a one-on-one reading with Uhm Tae-goo before the filming. We had a conversation with Uhm Tae-goo. I wanted to include it to the figures."
The film was directed and written by Jung Hyuk Ki himself, with the help of Writer Jo Hyun Cheol, while it was distributed on the 9th by CGV Arthouse.
"My Punch Drunk Boxer" revolves around the story of Byeong Goo, which was played by Uhm Tae-goo, who is a professional boxer who had a disease called "Punchdrunk". It is common within boxers which is the cause of damaging the cells in the brain.
Fans and viewers praised the actor as well as the director for his strong portrayal of the character. Also, it was revealed that in able for Uhm Tae-goo to completely transform into a boxer, he underwent massive training which lasted for five to six months.
Furthermore, the director also shared their preparation and the ways they did to be able to execute Uhm Tae-goo's transformation.
Director Jang said "I remember the role of Uhm Tae-goo in the commercial film as a rough role. I tried to draw out the purity he has. I didn't write it in detail in the script. Uhm Tae-goo's unique tone and hand gestures were made. ", implying that Uhm Tae-goo showed organic acting for the movie.
Meanwhile, Director Jang also talked about the female lead, Lee Hyeri which showed an amazing acting skill.
Lee Hyeri played the role of Min Ji who became the back support of Byeon Goo, after the incident happen to him, as well as Min Ji, is the one who helped him to be able to embrace his condition and do "Pansori Boxing", which will be going to be his style of boxing.
"Uhm Tae-goo, Kim Hee Won, can have a lot of energy, but thanks to Lee Hyeri, she was able to invigorate the film. She was in charge of the big axis." The director said before ending the interview.
