Kim Young Dae Talked About His Character In "Extraordinary You" And His Acting Career

Kim Young Dae played the role of Seoul High School's most famous student named Oh Nam Joo. He is also the leader of the Amazing 3 group. "Extraordinary You" is his first lead role after the "Omniscient Point of a Crush" drama in 2017.

Kim Young Dae said this opportunity feels surreal for him until the final episode. He thought it was over after watching the episode. He felt sad and refreshed after his drama ended. He felt sad because he became close and comfortable with the cast members and crew. The finale episode showed the graduation of all the characters from Seoul High School. This made him feel like he really graduated from filming the drama.

"Extraordinary You" consists of young cast members who hang out while filming. Kim Young Dae said they are all at the same age. They discussed and planned scenes on their own. He said the director asked them to make a plan while they were on break. They enjoy creating their own scenes.

He dove by himself and they double performed the turning scenes in the water. He said he always eat chicken and pizza but lost 2 kilograms while filming. This scene was really using all of his energy so he is tired in it.

The difficult factors for the characters are set-up in the shadow and stage. Kim Young Dae said the emotions of his character have no explanations. He said he liked the female lead because he is the male lead in a manhwa. He thought about how Nam Joo thinks.

Kim Young Dae described Oh Nam Joo as someone who is straightforward in his feelings because he always confesses in front of people. He said his friends said his scenes are cheesy and hard to watch. They asked him how he can say his cheesy lines. Kim Young Dae said he liked his character but he is curious why he behaves like that.

Kim Young Dae said he is not yet familiar with acting and dramas. He was a major in commerce at China's prestigious Fudan University 2 years ago. After 1st year in college, he went to Korea. Then, he encountered the agency CEO that gave him the opportunity to become an actor.

He said he has doubts in college when he decided to be an actor. He planned to get a job after graduating. Everything changed when he entered a new career. He thought acting is a big challenge that he should try.

He revealed that his parents did not agree with his plan. He made them change their minds when he told them he will give it a try in 2 years. "Extraordinary You" happened within the 2 years time frame. He said his parents now support him all the way. He is inspired to be like Yoo Hae Jin who is a great actor.
