When it comes to Korean drama, we all know that there's a wide variety out there. They have one-of-a-kind medical dramas, dramas about North and South Korea, gender bender series, and even shows about time travel!

But are you familiar with dramas that center on ghosts? Well, the Koreans do make these types of series mixed with comedy. What they do is they present some funny ghosts who love playing jokes and who are always up to some kind of mischief, then add a mix of romance with mystery and voila, everyone's hooked and entertained.

1. 49 Days (2011)

The lead stars: Lee Yo Won and Nam Gyu Ri

This story centers about a young woman named Ji Hyun played by Nam Gyu Ri who leads the too good to be truly a perfect life: she's gorgeous, she's rich, she has a loving family, and she's about to marry her dashing fiancée.

But her so-called perfect life is smashed into pieces when she gets into a car accident and ends up in a coma. Luckily, a supernatural being called The Reaper gave her a second chance at life. This chance comes with one condition: she has to find three people not related to her who would cry true and genuine tears for her. To do this, she borrows the body of Yi Kyung played by Lee Yo Won who is a part-time employee at a convenience store.

2. Arang And The Magistrate (2012)

The lead stars: Lee Joon Gi, Shin Min Ah, and Yeon Woo Jin

The story is about a doubtful and not-so-friendly government official named Eun Oh who is played by Lee Joon Gi that roams around the nation of Joseon looking for his mother who disappeared because of a mistake he made. Eun Oh is gifted with a third eye which is an ability to see ghosts. He is used to seeing them and is not afraid of ghosts anymore.

Along his journey, he meets a virgin ghost named Arang played by Shin Min Ah. Before becoming a ghost, Arang was a beautiful girl who was murdered. So discovering that Eun Oh can see or interact with ghosts, she asks him help to seek justice for her death and the two eventually fall for each other.

3. Who Are You? (2013)

The lead stars: So Yi Hyun, Ok Taec Yeon, and Kim Jae Wook

Who Are You? It is a story of a detective named Yang Shi-ohn played by So Yi Hyun. She suffered from a coma then six years later she wakes up. Upon recovering, she gets her job and was reassigned to the police station's lost and found department. From there she discovered that she's gained the supernatural ability to see ghosts that are related to the objects that were left behind there!

She is assigned with a new partner, a rookie cop named Cha Gun-woo played by Ok Taecyeon. Cha Gun-woo is a person with lots of doubts and doesn't believe in Yang Shi-ohn's abilities at first. But along the way, he eventually helps Shi-ohn solve cold cases with her new ability.

The new partnership then helps spirits fulfill their dying wishes and unfinished business before passing on to the afterlife.

4. The Master's Sun (2013)

The lead stars: So Ji Sub and Gong Hyo Jin

The Master's Sun centers the story on Joo Joong-won played by So Ji Sub. He is the cold and aloof CEO of a major company that is associated with department stores and hotels.

In the story, he meets the sad Tae Gong-shil played by Gong Hyo Jin, who began seeing ghosts after experiencing an accident. Both their lives change as they find out that every time Gong-shil comes in contact with Joong-won, the ghosts that are around her disappears. Gong-shil then asked Joong-won to let her stay by his side. The CEO agreed in one condition: she must help him recover a fortune that was stolen from him during a kidnapping attempt.
