Channel A's "News A" reported on February 15th that a famous movie star and an entertainment agency CEO is under investigation for obtaining a drug Propofol multiple times at a plastic surgery clinic and using false names when acquiring the drug. The movie star was reported for using Propofol for quite some time under the name of his younger brother who is also an actor.
Based on the reports of the "News A," the actor was introduced to the plastic surgery clinic by the former president of Aekyung Group who is Chae Seung Juk. The prosecutors are currently investigating and questioning Chae Seung Juk and the clinic's employee since it was known to be the hotspot for celebrities and businessmen as well. The investigators are also checking if anyone else at the clinic acquired the drugs using a false or different name.
Some media outlets released some reports that the name of the person who obtained the drug at the plastic surgery clinic was "Kim Sung Hoon" and that he also ordered the Propofol using the name of "Kim Young Hoon." To make it clear, "Kim Sung Hoon" is the real name of the actor "Ha Jung Woo" and the name of his younger brother is "Kim Young Hoon".
In addition, there were also reports that Chae Seung Juk who is the third-generation heir of Doosan Group was also being investigated for illegal injection of drugs. The prosecutors came to suspicion on this particular plastic surgery clinic when it was seen that most of its patients were using the drug Propofol is considered a psychoactive drug in South Korea, it is used to induce sleep and also an and anesthetic. This drug is considered illegal usage if it is other than surgical procedures.
This February 18, Ha Jung Woo agency Walkhouse Company released an official statement with regards to the said reports.
His agency stated that for many years the actor was concerned about a scar on his face. Last year January 2019 he was introduced to the director of a clinic that is famous for its laser scar treatment. And that director was willing to help Ha Jung Woo with his scar treatment. Afterward, the actor got strong laser treatment for about ten sessions between January up to September 2019. So every time the treatment was conducted, the clinic director decided that the patient should be put to sleep. And there was no case of abuse to the Propofol drug. The agency continued to explain and added that after seeing some results from the scar treatment, the actor already stopped going to the clinic.
In the statement, they also explained with regards to the issue of receiving the treatment under his actor younger brother. It stated that from the very start the clinic director has strong advocacy for privacy and told him to wear a mask and a hat when he visits for his treatment. The director also asked Ha Jung Woo for the names and personal information of an entertainment agency representative dongsaeng and his manager. Ha Jung Woo presumed that this was all related to his privacy protection, and because it was a doctor who asked for his personal data, he gave the information without much suspicion. He was blinded to what exactly the hospital did with the information but he never wanted to hide the fact that he was receiving treatment. Also, the agency said in the statement that the actor apologizes sincerely to his fans for the misunderstandings that this has caused.
The actor and his agency ask to please refrain from releasing unconfirmed reports. The agency will cooperate and comply with any requests from investigators.
