Celebrities Sign Petition Urging Authorities to Expose "Nth Room" Suspect's Identity to Public

Celebrities are upset about the sexual scandal called the "Nth Room," which involves young minors. Police captured the suspect allegedly involved in this controversial case and is currently under investigation

Actress Moon Ga Young, who stars in the ongoing series "Find Me in Your Memory," shared her support in the petition to have the alleged suspect's identity be exposed to the public. The K-drama celebrity expressed her support on social media on March 20 to urged the authorities. Soon after, several celebrities did the same.

The headlines emerged when the Metropolitan Police caught the suspect, who played a big role in the syndicated move of sexually abusing young women.

The police said that Cho (the suspect's name) tricked the victims into sending him nude photos that included their face and by telling them that it was part of a high-paying part-time job. Cho then used the nude pictures to blackmail victims, whom he referred to as "slaves," to obtain videos of a sexual nature, and distributed them across chat rooms.

Cho is believed to have run three types of Telegram chat rooms associated to three levels: 200,000 to 250,000 won for level 1 chatroom, 700,000 won for level 2, and 1.5 million won for level 3. They added that the suspect exploited women and minors from December 2018 to earlier this month.

The police confiscated 130 million won from the suspect's home and are currently tracking the assets he is alleged to have gained through this crime. The suspect is also presumed to have secured private information about the victims and members of the chat rooms through administrative aides at local government offices to blackmail the users and victims.

During the investigation, Cho admitted to have recruited some of the users for criminal activities including money laundering. Some of his accomplices even sexually assaulted some of the victims.

This sensitive case prompted big names in the entertainment industry to express their thoughts on the issue through social media. Actress Ha Yeon Soo posted on her Instagram how she felt about it. She also posted the petition letter in her IG stories. Fellow actress Son Soo Hyun wrote her frustrations of the people behind it. She reveals her support for the suspect image available in the media and people to see.  

The documents that circulated consisted of 2 petitions and one of these is to reveal the perpetrator's image, as the police tries to further search Cho's accomplices and make the necessary legal charges. It's known that 300,000 signatures have been collated within 2 days for the demand to reveal the identity.

K-pop idols, such as Girl's Day's Hyeri and Sojin, Baek Yerin, VIXX's Ravi, VAV's Baron, KARD's BM, ex-MOMOLAND member Yeonwoo, singer-actress Hyosung, Kim Bomi, Simon D, ex-STELLAR member Gayoung, Park Jimin, and ex-INFINITE's Hoya also took part in imploring the suspect's misdeed.
