South Korea is trying to make a comeback with theaters and cinemas, but COVID-19 affects the number of moviegoers.

The Korean Film Council's (KOFIC) gathered data tallied 79,711 moviegoers from the previous data of 80,180 weeks earlier. This made an impact on the council since they started to monitor box office from 2004 up to date. Last weekend had 80,000 drops of people who watched the film as per the board.

Statistics plummeted on Saturday, wherein 42,000 tickets were sold, while 39,700 were sold on Sunday. April 11 and 12 reached 79,000 sold tickets, the lowest in 16 years as KOFIC started in office.

Big films already rescheduled their premieres due to the pandemic. Canceled movies include "Mulan" and "No Time To Die."

While coronavirus still poses a threat, cinemas are getting low in numbers of film-goers. The lowest hit on weekdays reached 15,000, as of April 6. Few theaters like CGV closed their chains across South Korea and distributors plan to change the schedule of premiers.

In light of this, major multiplex Megabox scheduled to broadcast on the big screen six popular Marvel series. This will kickstart on April 16, Wednesday, with "Logan" and "Deadpool." Other Marvel films include "Avengers" and "Age of Ultron" on April 23, and "Infinity War" and "Endgame" on April 29.

As per Megabox, Walt Disney Co. and Marvel Studios as parent companies agreed on the special screenings as dated.

"We hope this special screening of the hit Marvel films can offer small comfort for the virus-hit film industry and a laugh to the audience," a statement released by Megabox.
