Kim Go Eun spent her younger years in China when her family left South Korea at the age of three in 1994. Having an upbringing exposed to both cultures made her strong and expressive. Ten years later, she returned to South Korea.
Kim Go Eun thought that being an actor would make a difference after watching "Together" by Chen Kaige, a Chinese filmmaker who also helmed "Caught in The Web" (2012) and "Forever Enthralled" (2008). Meeting director Jung Ji-woo through her common friends changed her fate for a lifetime. Out of 300 aspirants, Kim Go Eun got the leading character in an audition for a role in the movie "A Muse" in 2012, which accelerated her name to the entertainment industry.
Kim Go Eun, at the age of 21 with no exposure on any television series, received six Best Actress awards, two Rising Star Awards, and one New Artist Award.
According to director Jung Ji-Woon, "She is naturally curious and brave. She's strong in the sense that she isn't influenced easily. She doesn't do things just because everyone else does it."
"I ended up having an audition after chatting with the director. There wasn't even any time for me to prepare," Kim Go Eun shared.
Fame never flooded Kim Go Eun's mind. She took a two-year hiatus to study her craft at the Korea National University of Arts and focused on the school of drama and arts. She came back in 2014 and starred in more films, such as "Thriller Monster." After more than a year, she finished three films, including the "Coin Locker Girl," "Memories of the Sword," "The Advocate: A Missing Body," and "Canola" (2016).
There was no stopping of Kim Go Eun's rising career. The film "Coin Locker Girl" participated at the 2015 Cannes Film Festival and hit the box office with major awards.
Her excellent performance in the movie industry brought her another opportunity. This time, on the small screen. Her ticket to television drama series debuted in the 2016 drama "Chinese in The Trap" with actor Park Hae Jin and helmed by director Lee Joon Yung. There were also time adjustments while shooting the drama to fit Kim Go Eun's schedule into it. To portray the character well, Kim Go Eun chose to do a makeover towards her hairstyle and makeup.
Kim Go Eun's talent is not only in acting, but she also contributed her love for music in "Attraction" as OST for the said drama.
In the last quarter of 2016, she starred as the leading lady in "Guardian: The Lonely and Great God," also known as "Goblin." The drama soared high in ratings and is the 4th top-ranked rated drama in cable nationwide television coverage to date.
The latest newsmaker is her role with co-star Lee Min Ho, "The King: Eternal Monarch." Once again, Kim Go Eun never fails to surprise you with her natural and distinctive acting as the series premiered on the screen.
