On May 6, actress Choi Ji Woo announced that she's only 15 days away from her due date. She wrote a handwritten letter and uploaded it on social media for her fans.
"Hello. It's been a while. Firstly, I wish everyone is doing fine with their families in these difficult times of the coronavirus.
I'm finally 15 days away from my due date. I took a picture of myself in front of my house. I respect all the Korean mothers who are preparing to give birth at a late age, especially in the middle of the pandemic. I wish mothers who are preparing for childbirth would cheer up seeing me as the 'icon of advanced maternal age.'"
After dating for a year, Choi Ji Woo and her partner, a non-celebrity IT industry businessman, tied the knot.
South Korean actress Choi Ji Woo was born as Choi Mi Hyang on June 11, 1975. She is considered one of South Korea's most beautiful faces. Throughout her career, she has gained a lot of praises for her work in various melodramas, recognizably her works in "Winter Sonata" (2002), "Beautiful Days" (2001), "The Suspicious Housekeeper" (2013), "Stairway to Heaven" (2003), and "Temptation" (2014), and also in the romantic comedy drama "Woman With a Suitcase" (2016) and "Twenty Again" (2015).
In 1994, Choi Mi Hyang won an audition in an event organized by MBC. Soon after, she debuted in the drama "War and Love" (1995). Eventually, she changed her stage name into Choi Ji Woo.
Her very first major role was in the 1996 movie "The Gate of Destiny." But because her acting skills were still underdeveloped at that time, she was replaced in the process of filming. Two years later, Choi Ji Woo went on to star both in TV shows and movies, such as "The Hole," the original version of Hollywood's "Hush," and also in the rom-coms "First Kiss," paired with Ahn Jae Wook, and "The Romantic President," alongside Ahn Sung Ki.
Choi Ji Woo reunited with Bae Yong Joon in 2002, and starred in one of her most iconic roles. Helmed by Yoon Seok Ho as the second installment of his "season dramas," Winter Sonata was a sensational hit throughout Asia. Because of this, the actress received a wide range of Asian recognition and also a large following in Japan, where she earned the nickname Ji woo Hime ("Princess Ji Woo").
In 2009 Choi Ji Woo and Bae Yong Joon reprised their roles as voiceover actors for the anime version of "Winter Sonata." Up until now, the actress continues to be a famous celebrity and brand in Japan, getting broadcasting and high licensing rights for her shows, as well as selling out her merchandise and concerts.
