Joo Won Talks About Playing A Ghost And Becoming A Professor

Joo Won, 26, was very eager to play a ghost in his new musical, but what he secretly dreams about is becoming a professor.

The actor, who barely had time to breathe between his hit drama "Good Doctor," his film "Catch Me" and his role in the musical "Ghost," is always making plans.

He has been considering a role in a new drama called "Fashion King," but what he really wants to do is attend graduate school.

He's already studying broadcast communications at Konkuk University, but once he finishes there, he plans to apply for graduate school.

"I want to be a professor," said Joo Won. "It's a dream I've had since I was in high school. "If I can, if I'm smart enough, my dream is to teach kids."

His vision was complete with a wife and a wardrobe.

"After I get married, on the days I'm not acting, I want to wear a coat and brush my white hair, wear sunglasses, and go out in a nice car," he said. "I'll kiss my wife and go teach."

But right now, rather than working on his image as a future professor, he is trying to channel Patrick Swayze who first played the role of Sam in the film that the musical is based on. He wanted to play the role because he saw the film so many times.

"I watched the film belatedly when I was a college student, and bought the DVD right away," he said. "I watched it probably more than 20 times. I am so melodramatic. I easily empathize. I deeply related to the message of the movie. It was about a love that goes on even after one dies. Is it possible to fall in love so deeply like that?"

Before deciding on the musical he saw a video.

"They were similar," he said. "The emotions in the movie were expressed in music and stage settings. The music is really touching. Some actors wept after listening to the songs."

Despite seeing the movie so many times, he did not worry about comparisons with Patrick Swayze.

"The three actors currently performing Sam have different acting styles. Mine is the most emotional. I want to cry, get angry and love. Such real feelings result in my deviating from traditional musical songs and lines. Sometimes, I can't move because I feel so choked by sad scenes. Some advise me to control my emotions, but I don't want to just pretend on a stage."

He's certainly a convincing performer having played such different roles in "Bridal Mask," "Level 7 Civil Servant" and "Good Doctor." He will probably make a great professor, the kind students line up to take classes with. Would you sign up for a class with Professor Joo Won?
