Kim Yoo Jung portrays the role of an energetic and athletic twenty-year old woman who happens to have great fighting skills. Although she appears to be strong, she is a regular woman who loves flowers, treasures her friends and enjoys a retro kind of music and fashion.
"Convenience Store Saet-byul" is the original webtoon wherein "Backstreet Rookie" was adopted from. The 2016-2017 webtoon was written by Hwalhwasan and illustrated by Geumsagong. Furthermore, it is an iQIYI original series and the first-ever Korean drama invested by channel Lifetime and produced by Taewon Entertainment.
"Backstreet Rookie" is set in a twenty-four hour convenience store, and tells the love story between the store owner Choi Dae Hyun and part-time employee Jung Saet Byu.
Before their meeting in the convenience store, the two already met way back when Saet Byeol was just a high school student. Back then Saet Byeol was associated with a group of girls who were troublemakers. Dae Hyun accidentally ran into these girls then they asked him to buy a pack of cigarettes from a convenience store, which he happily did. He then gave Saet-byul his number but she never called him.
Fast forward to the present, Saet-byul is now a university student and she accepted a part-time job in a convenience store to help her with her schools needs, in which Dae Hyun becomes her boss. She is totally opposite from what she was and she is now ethical and is determined to finish her studies. Before running the small convenience store, Dae Hyun recently resigned from a big corporate company.
The new stills showed Kim was somewhat in a different place, more likely a restaurant than in a convenience store. And it draws questions as to why she was working there. She is probably working another part-time job. She radiantly shines as she engaged socially with the customers smiling and capturing the attention of everyone else. The way she approaches the customers shows how confident she is as if this is not the first time she did this kind of job.
The production team admire Kim Yoo Jung and the viewers are already anticipating her portrayal of the role. They added that the viewers will be able to see numerous unique sides of Kim Yoo Jung in the rom-com.
Additionally, they said Kim has been making the production set happy which made it a comfortable and fun set to work in. Also, her superior acing skills made her portray the role Jung Saet Byul as a part-time saleswoman adorably. There's no doubt that the viewers will love Kim Yoo Jung in her role like her co-workers did.
Meanwhile, Kim Yoo Jung debuted as a child actress in the drama series "Freezing Point" when she was just four years old as Choi Eun Yi. Since then she became one of the best known child actresses. She was even considered as "Korea's Little Sister" when she was a child actress and has since been dubbed as "Sageuk Fairy" after starring in several acclaimed historical dramas in her career. She also ranked 8th on Forbes Korea Power Celebrity list, and she the youngest to be part of Top 10 at 17 years old in 2017.
