Going overseas and learning a new language or getting a degree is not new for several Korean celebrities. Many choose to study abroad because of the advantage of learning English and another language. A few also made claims that going abroad is to escaping their educational system, although the trend dipped for the past few years.
Previous statistics show that for the past years, Koreans would seek study programs overseas and choose to live in a foreign country for some time. They seek new avenues in learning a new skill and a new language. But after how many years, these students still value and return to their homeland.
Let us get to know Korean drama actors who went abroad alone or with family to study and experience different cultures.
Jung Eun Chae
In character as prime minister Goo in the "The King: Eternal Monarch," Jung Eun Chae spent eight years living and studying in London. She speaks and understands the English language. She was a commercial model at the same time. She excels in learning new cultures together with her family. The acting was in her interest after the influence of her brother. She majored in textile design at Central Saint Martins.
Seo Ye Ji
Her current character as a celebrity children's book author and with great chemistry towards her co-star Kim Soo Hyun, Seo Ye Ji received praise for her good acting skills as Moon Young. Before her debut in the entertainment industry, Seo Ye Ji left Korea to study and learn the Spanish language. She persuaded her parents to allow her to travel alone and lived in Spain for three years. Seo Ye Ji can converse in Spanish well and made this visible in her previous drama series.
Kim Go Eun
At the age of three years old, her family moved to Beijing, China, and lived there for ten years. She became fluent in the Mandarin language. Her desire to be a filmmaker and led to theater instilled a passion to pursue arts drama. She studied drama at the Korea National University of Arts. Kim Go Eun became a hit leading lady to top Korean actors and made hit drama series. Her last role is Jung Tae Eul with co-star Lee Min Ho in "The King: Eternal Monarch."
Choi Woo Sik
He was born in South Korea when his family decided to immigrate to Canada during his grade school. He spent ten years living and studying at British Columbia. With permission from his parents, Choi auditioned in an acting event in Korea where it led to his acting debut. In 2019, he was cast in the popular film "Parasite" where he won Outstanding Performance By a Cast in a Motion Picture. The award is an international recognition of the 26th Screen Actors Guild Award held in Los Angeles, California.
Ahn Hyo Seop
He was born in South Korea and his family immigrated to Toronto, Canada. At the age of 17 years old, Ahn returned to South Korea while his family stayed in Canada. He completed his studies at Kookmin University taking International Business. He tried to be a JYP trainee but changed his direction into acting considering his tall height does not fit with a K-pop group. He appeared in "Dr. Romantic 2" and it was a hit success.
Jung Ryeo Won
She was born in South Korea but her family migrated to Brisbane, Australia during grade school. She is fluent in English and adapted to the Australian way of life by junior high school. Jung Ryeo Won majored in International Business at Griffith University. She was discovered while she came back to Korea as an exchange student. She started as a K-pop singer and ventured in acting after her group got disbanded.
