Here are some actors who initially turned down and nearly rejected the offer to be cast as lead roles.
Gong Yoo (Goblin)
Not only was the drama accepted locally, but international viewers have constantly followed the hit cable drama series. The series consistently topped cable television viewership ratings now wonder many fans fell in love with the Goblin himself, Gong Yoo.
However, Gong Yoo initially turned down the offer in joining the cast as he was not confident enough that he would be able to pull off the role.
Eventually, the actor changed his mind when the screenwriter Kim Eun Sook talked to him.
Suzy (Dream High)
This drama was very popular among teens and the ratings reached 18-20%. It is about six high school students who have dreams of becoming K-pop idols. Suzy as Go Hye Mi wanted to become an opera singer at first but had to take up mainstream pop to pay off her father's debt.

Initially, she turned down the offer mainly because she was not really confident about her acting and she was focused on her singing career.
Jun Ji Hyun (My Love From The Star)
This top-rated drama reached an average nationwide rating of 24%, according to AGB Nielsen. Back then, there was hit a sudden surge in orders of the clothes, accessories and makeup products worn by Jun Ji Hyun in the series.
Before Jun Ji Hyun accepted the role, she was in preparation for another film; thus, rejecting the offer at first.

However, when there was a conflict with the film's schedule, it allowed the actress to free up her supposed to be scheduled and later became the female lead of "My Love From The Star."
IU (My Mister)
This critically-acclaimed drama series won the 55th Baeksang Arts Awards for Best Drama. It depicts the lives of three middle-aged brothers, along with a woman (IU). They have been struggling with their lives as they come together and eventually helped heal one another.
IU had thoughts of rejecting the role at first due to her past "Lolita Controversy," as she thought the role would bring about unwanted problems to her co-stars.
After a talk with the director, she felt at ease and accepted the role.
Park Hae Joon (The World of the Married)
Based on BBC One's drama series Doctor Foster, The World of the Married had generated huge attention and discussion about how the wife who had her revenge when her husband betrayed her for a younger woman. And the husband was the most hated person in the series.
However, Park Hae Joon as the husband initially turned down the offer, thinking he couldn't portray the role. He was hesitant and was not very confident.
Eventually, after a talk with the Director Byun Young Joo, he accepted the role and it would be foolish of him to reject it as his co-star would be the multi-awarded actress Kim Hee Ae
