The Embassy of the Republic of Korea and the Korean Cultural Center, together with MIND S-Cool and the BGC Arts Center, will be having a free, live-streamed webinar 'The Role of K-Dramas in Sharing and Shaping Culture Beyond Borders'. This will be a one-time event consisting of a series of talks about K-drama production with Korean entertainment industry professionals alongside esteemed entertainment figures from the Philippines. The webinar is open to everyone, no matter where you are in the world, and will be streamed live on Nov. 6 and Nov. 7, 2020, from 9:30 AM-12:30 PM on the Korean Cultural Center's YouTube Channel and BGC Arts Center's Facebook page.

K-dramas have been gaining fame ever since the early 2000s, with popular shows such as 'Endless Love: Winter Sonata' (2003-2004), 'Full House (2005)', and 'Lovers in Paris' (2005) gained popularity all around the globe. K-Dramas have helped the rise in the Korean wave, also known as the Hallyu wave, all around the world, and have gained traction with how accessible K-dramas have gotten thanks to online streaming platforms. During the lockdown, K-dramas started gaining more popularity worldwide and is now a top genre of entertainment. While this has caused some conflicting emotions with some locals, webinar speaker, writer, and director Joey Reyes will be taking the initiative to explain the uniqueness and amazing worlds existing in K-drama. The webinar is filled with interesting talks to look forward to. The first day will focus on K-drama productions. It will feature talks from the Korea Creative Content Agency's Chief of Broadcasting Industry Team, Lee Young-hoon, and Pan Entertainment's Vice President and Head of Drama Production, Kim Hee-yeol. Never heard of Pan Entertainment? Pan Entertainment is the company behind the iconic dramas 'Endless Love: Winter Sonata,' 'Fight For My Way,' 'Kill Me, Heal Me,' 'Moon Embracing the Sun' and the currently trending 'Record of Youth', among others. The webinar will also feature talks from award-winning Filipin director and incumbent president of the Cinemalaya Foundation, Laurice Gillen.

The second day of webinars will focus on K-drama scriptwriting. It will feature talks from renowned K-drama scriptwriter Kim Yoon-young who is behind the drama 'KAIST' as well as a talk from Filipino award-winning writer, director, and professor, Jose Javier Reyes.

The webinar aims to become the reason to spark conversations between the South Korean and local entertainment professionals and industries and lead them to start exchanging media knowledge and practices. This webinar also hopes that both countries can improve and learn from each other to create more meaningful content and shows... maybe it can even lead to a potential collaboration South Korean-Filipino series?
