The upcoming film "Seobok" starred by Gong Yoo and Park Bo Gum will move its premiere date due to the spike of COVID19 cases in South Korea.
A representative from CJ Entertainment confirmed on Dec. 7 that the much-awaited film will delay its premiere date. The representative expressed that because of the rising cases of covid19 in South Korea, the launching date, which was initially scheduled this month, will be moved. They added that they have talked about this matter thoroughly and came up with decision for everyone's safety. The production will keep everyone posted with the new premiere date once it's confirmed.
As of the moment, there has been a rise in new COVID-19 cases in the whole country, including the entertainment industry. Starting on Dec. 8, the South Korean government is planning to take the social distancing level 2.5 in the metropolitan area. Areas that are being used by the public such as restaurants, cafes, arcades, theme parks, cinemas, bars, and more will be allowed to operate limitedly.
"Seobok" is a science fiction film that will revolve around a terminally ill former intelligence agent named Ki Heon (played by Gong Yoo) who will be assigned to transport the first-ever genetically mutated human clone named Seobok (Park Bo Gum) who holds the secret of eternal life. The transportation of Seobok will be considered as Ki Heon's last mission. They eventually become entangled in dangerous situations as several people want the clone to be in their possession.
The said film aims to sometime in the first half of 2021.
Meanwhile, in an interview, Park Bo Gum once shared that the name of his character "Seobok" means "living peacefully for a long time." The said film will make us think about the morality of humanity. It gives us a sense of being a content person and not to become overly ambitious. It makes us appreciate the advancement of life science technologies.
"Seobok" marks Park Bo Gum's first film after four years though he is currently serving his mandatory military duty; he has left us some projects to enjoy, including the just-concluded Korean drama "Record of Youth" where he starred alongside Park So Dam. The drama will follow the lives of young people in the world of modeling.
Aside from the upcoming sci-fi film "Seobok," Gong Yoo and Park Bo Gum will also star together in another film titled "Wonderland," where Choi Woo Shik and Bae Suzy are also confirmed to join. The film will tell the story of a simulated universe wherein people are given a chance to reunite with their loved ones with whom they can no longer interact in the real world. This simulated universe is called "Wonderland." Gong Yoo is said to portray the character of a man who decided to create a simulation of his deceased wife. On the other hand, Bo Gum and Suzy will star as a young couple who will face hardships in their relationship when Bo Gum's character falls into a coma.
