Jo Byeong Gyu Talks About his First Leading Role Experience in ‘The Uncanny Counter’

OCN's ongoing drama "The Uncanny Counter" is continuing to break its rating records.

With its undeniably amazing plot, one of "The Uncanny Counter" cast and rookie actor Jo Byeong Gyu talks about the drama's success and gives a glimpse of his first leading role experience.

Ever since the month of December started, the action comedy-drama had achieved new records for its highest viewership ratings in OCN's drama's history. The show has surpassed its own record last Dec. 19 with their eight episode, which garnered an impressive average rating of 9.3 percent nationwide.

Showing his gratitude to all the viewers and fans of the drama, Jo Byeong Gyu expressed, "Thank you to all the viewers who keep on watching and supporting our drama. You are the reason why we continue to achieve this historic record of the highest ratings in OCN history. We will continue to work hard until the end."

The 24-year-old actor also shared the struggles he encountered while preparing for his first-ever leading role.

He shared, "It is my first lead role and I'm not gonna hide it. I experienced a lot of pressure, and I even had a hard time sleeping while we were filming." Jo Byeong Gyu continued, "But seeing the positive response of the viewers made me put more effort so I can give justice to my role."

When asked about what the viewers can look forward to in the upcoming episodes, he spoiled, "Viewers should continue to watch the drama to know what will happen after the Counters overcome a dangerous task. In a powerful and dynamic way, So Moon (Jo Byeong Gyu's character) will be showing the new version of himself by becoming even more strong and mature."

He also added, "I think viewers will be able to enjoy the drama if they keep an eye on So Moon's character, whether he can manage to overcome all the struggles that he will be facing and if he will be able to see his parents again."

Also, amidst the continuous spread of COVID-19, Jo Byeong Gyu honestly shared his hope about their drama.

"Many of us are facing different problems during this time of pandemic, but instead of being hopeless, this is a good time for us to join forces in enduring all that is happening around us. We should help one another in overcoming the hardships," he continued, "My heart is heavy because there are people out there who are struggling with depression."

Jo Byeong Gyu went on, "In the hopes that our drama 'The Uncanny Counter' can give comfort to people who are feeling down and frustrated, I will give my all to show a good performance that the viewers can enjoy watching. Hold on and continue to please cheer on us."

The next episode of "The Uncanny Counter" will start airing again on Jan. 2 at 10:30 PM (KST) after one-week of hiatus.
