The Korean Cultural Center Washington, DC (KCCDC) has launched a new virtual performance series, featuring works by Korean dance troupes recently at the center stage of the International Modern Dance Festival (MODAFE).

Its MODAFE series highlights three exceptional original performances previously showcased at the international dance festival held last May 2021. Each performance is available for only 48 hours, experiencing the vibrant energy and the prolific concepts presented by Korea's top dance companies.

Performances are centered around contemporary ideas in the post-COVID era, with the event offering an opportunity to introduce the groups advancing Korean modern dance to a wider audience.

The first program has started last August 20, 8 PM EDT and will run for 48 hours until August 22. Titled "La trahison des images," the performance was written by Lee Dongha and performed by the Leedongha Dance Project. Challenging the human perception, "La trahison des images" asks what is real and what is not, that what might be a fact is not necessarily the truth. Inspired by the works of Rene Magritte, the performance blurs the line between what is real and what is true.

"La trahison des images" will be performed by the Leedongha Dance Project. Established in 2015, the troupe pursues instinctive expression by placing focus on natural movements, transforming everyday life into dance, and implementing their approach on stage.

From August 27 to 29, COMPANY SIGA will be showcasing "ENERGY," choreographed by Kwon Hyuk. Everyone has the energy to change ourselves and the things around us. However, not everyone knows and feels that energy. With the COMPANY SIGA performance, audiences are invited to ask how far this human energy can take us.

COMPANY SIGA began with the goal of empathizing with people and life through dance as the medium. Its collaborative approach integrates movement and thought into a single, unified performance.

Lastly, "Reboot: Walk the Line 2.0" will be running on the KCCDC website and YouTube channel from September 3 to 5. Park Kwan-jeong choreographed the performance by Rising Tide Dance Theater. As the world is starting to recover in a world after the COVID-19 pandemic, the performance examines how people "Reboot" and "walk the line" in the new normal.

The Rising Tide Dance Theater, established in 1984, has a repertoire of more than 300 dance works. It is known for the Korean-language series, originally created for Korean Metaphor, which contains carefully crafted performances that bring the Korean language to the global stage.
