The award-winning actor captured the hearts of fans with his character Seong Gi Hoon a.k.a player number 456 in the K-series.
In the drama, he portrays a father who got separated from his daughter after his wife divorced him. To make things worse, he is caught up in a ton of debt and is still living with his mother.
His ballooning debt and the situation with his daughter prompted him to join the game.
Little did he know that the 456 participants were tasked to play a children's game with a twist. Losers will face a death-defying consequence, and there's only one winner who will take home the whopping cash prize of 45.6 billion won.

One of Seong Gi Hoon's brilliant moves was featured in "Squid Game" episode 3 titled "The Man with the Umbrella."
As for the second game, the players were instructed to cut out the shapes varying from triangle, circle, star, and umbrella without breaking the figure.
Being the unlucky guy on his team, Gi Hoon picked the hardest one, the umbrella. Fortunately, he thought of licking the honeycomb to melt it instead of cutting it using a needle.
In his virtual interview, the 48-year-old A-lister shared his honest thoughts upon reviewing the scene.
He revealed that he laughed so much and even asked himself," 'Did I act like that?" adding, "I remember acting like that a long time ago, but not recently."
Moreover, he also mentioned that PD Hwang Dong Hyuk told him to lick the honeycomb cookie as best he could, and so he did.
Lee Jung Jae shared that he acted as if his life really depended on it; hence he appeared full of emotions.
