Netflix's highly anticipated Kdrama, "The Silent Sea", is gaining mixed reactions from viewers as the sci-fi series premiered on Christmas Eve.
Based on the short film "Sea of Tranquility," the eight-part series follows the story of an elite space crew who is set on a top-secret mission in an abandoned lunar base called the "silent sea."

Hong Kong Based publication, The South China Morning Post, recently reviewed the sci-fi series giving 2 out of 5 scores.
The review boldly expressed its disappointment over the Kdrama, noting that "The Silent Sea" has a "dull narrative, drearily repetitive environments and lack of characterization."
Moreover, it pointed out the "poor design and confusing orchestration of the space flight and its subsequent crash" alongside "the utterly bizarre moonwalking," calling it "worst hours of TV this year."
Despite the star-studded cast, some netizens also shared the same sentiment and described the eight-part series as "boring."
Meanwhile, others mentioned that the storyline line is entirely "predictable."
'The Silent Sea' Enters Top 10 TV Shows on Netflix Worldwide
Amid the mixed reactions from viewers, 'The Silent Sea' managed to enter the 10 TV shows on Netflix worldwide but failed to rank first place.
Released on December 24, the mystery sci-fi series scored a seventh place on the daily rankings based on FlixPatrol's December 25 chart.
Meanwhile, Gong Yoo and Bae Doona's Kdrama jumped to fourth place on December 26, surpassing "The Girl from Oslo" and "The Queen of Flow" and the record-breaking "Squid Game" who remained on top 10 for three months since it debuted.

Why Bae Doona and Gong Yoo Said Yes to 'The Silent Sea'
Headlining the sci-fi series is Bae Doona, who took on the role of astrobiologist Song Jian whose sister was killed in the lunar base.
Five years later, she was chosen as one of the members of the expedition alongside team leader Captain Han Yun Jae.
Along with nine other members, the duo undergoes a secret mission to retrieve a sample that could be the solution to the Earth's massive drought.
Joining the cast are MBLAQ's Lee Joon as Lieutenant Ryu Tae Suk, Kim Sun Young as team member's medic, Doctor Hong Ga Young, Lee Moo Saeng and Jung Soon Won as siblings Chief Gong Soo Hyuk and Gong Soo Chan, Lee Sung Wook as pilot Kim Hee Sun and many more.
During the "The Silent Sea" press conference, Bae Doona revealed why she accepted the offer to star in a sci-fi series.
The "Kingdom" star mentioned that she got sold on the script, noting that she sees this as a challenge given sci-fi are not common on K-series.
"I thought a space sci-fi created in Korea would be worth a challenge as an actor. That's what I thought. So I wanted to take part. So I really enjoyed that short film, I was very amazed by the quality of it," she said.
The same goes for Gong Yoo, who mentioned that "The Silent Sea" was perfect timing for him to do a different kind of genre.
