Director Jo Sung Hee set the bar high for sci-fi films after introducing the film "Space Sweepers."
Released in February 2021, the movie, which stars Song Jong Ki and Kim Tae Ri, gained an overwhelming response from the viewers. This is despite the surge of K-zombie-related contents, and at the height of COVID-19 cases.
"Spaces Sweepers," set in 2092, follows the journey of a space junk collector ship dubbed as "The Victory" and its crew. They are in search of a humanoid robot named Dorothy.
Interestingly, not only did the sci-fi film receive positive feedback but it also scored multiple awards in various ceremonies. Few of them include the Best Technical Award at the 2021 Korean Association Of Film Critics Awards, and Best Art Direction at the 30th annual Buil Film Awards.
In addition, "Space Sweepers" is also included at the top 20 Most-Mentioned K-Movies on Twitter globally, ranking fifth place.
With a slew of recognitions, Star News reported in May 2021 that Song Joong Ki's movie would be getting a sequel.
At the time, the film's VFX supervisors Jeong Seong Jin, and Jeong Cheol Min reportedly agreed to lead "Space Sweepers 2."
As the fans patiently wait for the high-anticipated sequel, here is what is keeping Song Joong Ki, Kim Tae Ri, and the other "Space Sweepers" cast busy this 2022.
